Garrett Berdan is a nutrition educator and chef with Nutrition Education Services/Oregon Dairy Council in Portland, Oregon. He is responsible for development and promotion of programs and materials for health professionals. Garrett has been interviewed for a number of web and print publications, radio vignettes, has contributed articles and recipes to health-focused newsletters, and he has provided cooking demonstrations for live local morning television.
Since 2002 Garrett has worked as a registered dietitian in long-term care, acute care, and supermarket settings. Consumer education has been his focus for the past 4 years with emphasis on the DASH eating plan, heart disease prevention, the renal diet, family mealtime, cooking with kids, cooking skills development, and cooking with whole grains and dried beans. Garrett has been a guest instructor for the Culinary Institute of America and a guest speaker for the Willamette Valley and Portland Dietetic Associations. In addition to dietetic experience, Garrett has worked as a production assistant on the Food Network program Easy Entertaining with Michael Chiarello. Professional memberships include the American Dietetic Association (ADA), the Food and Culinary Professionals Practice Group of the ADA, Oregon Dietetic Association, Portland Dietetic Association, International Association of Culinary Professionals, and Portland Culinary Alliance.
Garrett obtained his degree in Food Science and Human Nutrition from Washington State University in 2002 through the Coordinated Program in Dietetics. To enhance his food and nutrition expertise, Garrett completed the Accelerated Culinary Arts Certificate Program at The Culinary Institute of America at Greystone in Napa Valley, California in 2005.
