Dietary Guidance

The 2005 Dietary Guidelines for Americans provides a science-based blueprint for a healthy diet – not to mention a tasty diet. The Guidelines encourage children and adults ages 9 years and older to enjoy three servings of low-fat or fat-free milk and milk products each day, and children ages 2 – 8 to consume 2 cups of milk or equivalent milk products every day.

MyPyramid helps educate Americans on positive diet and lifestyle choices, and National Dairy Council has developed complementary nutrition education materials to help people incorporate the Guidelines in their everyday lives.

See below for meal plans, fact sheets and resources about dairy’s place in the Guidelines, as well as information on MyPyramid and the nutrition science surrounding the recommendations.
