The Role of Dairy Foods and Activity for Growing Children
Conclusion
Strategies are available to encourage and empower children to make better decisions about their diet, physical activity, and health. Growing children can benefit from parents and other care providers who model healthful eating and enjoyable physical activity patterns (4,43,59). Although osteoporosis is a disease of older adults, prevention begins in childhood by maximizing calcium retention and bone density during the growing years. Education programs can be an effective strategy to improve growing children's dietary intake, including their milk-drinking habits, and their physical activity (8,67).
