Karen Giles-Smith, M.S., R.D. United Dairy Industry of Michigan
Karen is the Manager of Nutrition Communications for United Dairy Industry of Michigan (UDIM). She coordinates nutrition communications and medical outreach programs to provide health professionals, the media, and consumers with current information on nutrition and health. Karen also serves as a media spokesperson on a variety of issues including child nutrition, dental health, the teen calcium crisis, lactose intolerance, hypertension/DASH diet, and osteoporosis prevention.
Karen is a Licensed Registered Dietitian. She received a Bachelor of Science in Food Science and Nutrition from Marygrove College in Detroit and a Master of Science in Human Nutrition from Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio. Before joining UDIM, she worked as a clinical dietitian for William Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak and as a program dietitian for KidsSports in Farmington Hills, Michigan. Karen is a member of the Society for Nutrition Education and the American Dietetic Association. She is President of the Lansing Dietetic Association and active in the Michigan Dietetic Association.
