Tools for Schools
Schools are an ideal place for kids to learn and practice good nutrition. The National Dairy Council provides timely, scientifically-sound nutrition information designed specifically for teachers, parents and school foodservice professionals.
- New Resources Available On Dairy's Role in Child Nutrition
A new white paper provides a summary of the child nutrition environment and the most current research and insights on dairy's role in child nutrition, including in government-funded feeding programs. The white paper includes:
A recent report by ENVIRON shows that now more than ever students are choosing low-fat or fat-free milk at school—approximately three-quarters of students are enjoying these nutrient-rich offerings! Read more about this new data:
- The Importance of Nutrient-Rich Foods in Planning Nutritious Meals for Children Editorial:
A new joint editorial from seven of the leading national health and nutrition organizations highlights the need for Americans of all ages to build more healthful diets with nutrient-rich foods, including low-fat and fat-free milk, cheese and yogurt, and help to reduce the risk of obesity and chronic disease beginning in childhood.
In the editorial, the American Academy of Pediatrics, American Academy of Family Physicians, American Dietetic Association, National Hispanic Medical Association, National Medical Association, School Nutrition Association and Action for Healthy Kids lend support to the nutrient-rich foods approach, which considers the total nutrient package of a food or beverage, as a way for Americans to build and enjoy a healthier diet by getting the most nutrition for their calories.
- MyPyramid for Kids:

- Little D's Nutrition Expedition™ and Arianna's Nutrition Expedition™:
Little D's Nutrition Expedition, a 10-activity program for 2nd grade, and Arianna’s Nutrition Expedition, an eight-activity program for 4th grade, feature hands-on learning about nutrition and the value of physical activity. Both programs support MyPyramid and supplement your language arts and health curricula.
